Off-Duty Police Chief Arrested for DUI
Enterprise Mayor Tony Chancelor has confirmed with CCHT that John Griffith who currently serves at the Police Chief for the Town of Enterprise was recently involved in an accident resulting in a DUI arrest. Sources tell CCHT the accident occurred Thursday evening near the intersection of River Road and Highway 513 (Bridge Street) in Enterprise where Griffith, who was off-duty at the time and driving his personal vehicle, side-swiped another vehicle which was parked in front of the Enterprise Methodist Church.
Enterprise Police Officers, Clarke County Sheriff Deputies and State Troopers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene where Griffith was taken into custody and transported to the Clarke County Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence.
“It’s a bad situation for everyone involved, he was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle” says Mayor Chancelor, who stated the employee personnel issue would be dealt with in private. Mayor Chancelor went on to add that Griffith “Has been a very good chief for the town and has served the citizens of this community very well”.
When asked for more details about the incident; “Again, it’s a bad situation, but all I can do is confirm there was an accident and the arrest information is public record” says Chancelor.
We will continue to follow this story and bring you any updates as we have them from the Town of Enterprise.
