Kenson Young the son of Kendarius Young and Takeshia Young born April 24,2018. He has two siblings Talecia McCarty and Ava Young. He’s currently in the 1st grade at Quitman Lower Elementary. Kenson loves to play basketball and baseball. On October 5, 2021 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He received chemotherapy for 2 years. On January 4,2024 Kenson Young rung his bell, he is now CANCER FREE. Kenson is doing great and living life. He is a Cancer Survivor and a Leukemia Warrior.
It all started with him having knee pain in both knees. He complained about it a lot but he would start back playing, so as a parent you think he hit it on something and now it’s ok. One night it wasn’t ok he cried for eight plus hours none stop. We went to the er and they did a lot of tests and an X-ray. The X-ray showed something in his hip that looked like a fracture so we were discharged and told to follow up with his pediatrician in the AM. The next day his pediatrician admitted him into the hospital in meridian for more tests but nothing was found. He was discharged again after a week. The next day he was crying again constantly none stop so I called his doctor and requested her to send us to Batson she did with orders for a MRI. The MRI was abnormal, we were admitted for several weeks for testing and the doctors watching his blood counts seen that they were abnormal also. We met several of doctors for two possible diagnoses. Dr Arnold, the Oncologist, came to talk with us about a bone marrow to make sure he didn’t have some type of cancer but she didn’t believe he did but wanted to be sure. On October 5, 2021 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and our lives changed. On October 6,2021 Kenson had his first surgery to get his chemo port placed in his chest and chemo began. We were in the hospital a max of 30 days for treatment and monitoring. One month later he was in remission. Three months later he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Avascular Necrosis in both knees. Which began another journey for him having to do finger sticks and insulin daily. He wasn’t happy at all. During the two and a half year of treatment at Batson our experience has been great. The nurses were awesome but we do have a favorite nurse her name is Ellen. Kenson best person is Courtney the child life specialist but Kenson calls her the toy lady. She made chemo easy for Kenson. She knew how to calm him when he was scared and for that we will forever love her. Also, the social worker at the Blood Center for Cancer and blood disorder submitted Kenson name to Make a Wish and he was granted a fully funded trip to Disney on March 10-17,2023. Kenson enjoyed everything and wants to return soon. While treatment continued, he still remained in remission. On January 4,2024 Kenson Young rung his bell, he is CANCER FREE. Although he still has to do checkups every three months, he’s is doing great and living life.
He’s currently in the 1st grade at Quitman Lower Elementary. He is a member of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist where Washington McKenzie, Jr. is his pastor.
