A Message from Clarke County EMA Director, Eddie Ivy
As you are aware, Clarke County was recently affected by flash flooding and flooding caused by severe storms and heavy rainfall. To date, there have been over 130 residences which have suffered damage. Some of you and your organizations have already been involved in the response and recovery efforts. Thank you for your efforts to assist the citizens of Clarke County.
Clarke County EMA has completed initial damage assessments and submitted that information to MEMA to be included in any requests for State or Federal assistance. Governor Bryant has issued a State of Emergency which includes Clarke County.
A Community Based Recovery Committee has been established to assist with identification of unmet needs and coordination of efforts to assist residents in returning to their lives.
On Saturday, January 5, 2019, several teams of volunteers received Case Worker training and went into the community to meet with disaster survivors. The United Methodist Committee on Relief conducted this training and provided case work forms.
As a result of this assessment, the following opportunities for assisting the survivors of this event with their immediate needs include:
· Assistance cleaning and removing flooded debris from homes
· Cleaning supplies.
· Assistance making emergency repairs to allow for safety and security.
(Removing damaged sheetrock or flooded carpets for example)
If your Church or organization would be interested in assisting with any of these opportunities, please contact the Clarke County Emergency Management Agency at 601-776-2256 or ema@clarkecountyms.gov. We will be matching requests for help with offers of assistance.
