HWY 45 ACCIDENT

***JUST IN*** HWY 45 – Emergency Officials responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident this evening on Highway 45 where officials tell CCHT the silver car cross the center median and struck the 18 wheeler directly in the fuel tank causing it to rupture. We’re told the driver of the car may have had a medical issue which caused the mishaps. The truck driver could tell something was wrong and was able to see the car in enough time to get slowed down to avoid a full head-on impact. Quitman Fire & Rescue along with East Quitman Fire Department responded to the scene. Clarke County Emergency Management Agency assisted wit the fuel leakage while Paratech EMS tended to the injured driver. Clarke County Sheriff Deputies and State Troopers from the Mississippi Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control and accident investigation. The driver of the car was transported to a Meridian Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Will post further as it becomes available.Traffic on Hwy 45 was temporarily re-routed around the Highway 18 East exit to avoid the crash scene.
