HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
Quitman Police Chief Mike McCarra tells CCHT that Officers responded to the scene of a man laying in the ditch this morning. Chief McCarra confirms that the deceased victim is Carl Lott and that his body is being sent to the State Crime Lab for an Autopsy.
The call came in just after 7:30 a.m. where someone found and reported to 911 Dispatchers of a body laying on the side of Highway 145 just passed Highway 513. Quitman Police Officers along with Paratech EMS were dispatched to the area, where shortly thereafter the Clarke County Coroner was called to the scene to recover the body.
Witnesses in the area tell CCHT they heard several fireworks and/or gunshots in the area just before and after 10:30 p.m. however, Investigators are working to determine the exact time of death.
According to officials this crime scene appears to be that of a shooting victim, but no further details are available or released at this time.
Investigators are actively working this case, and any information should be directed to the Quitman Police Department.
