Two Children in Two Days

Over the past two days, there have been two calls that deal with two separate children being found walking alongside or in the road. The first child was found sitting on the side of Highway 18 West of Pachuta near Interstate 59. A concerned citizen stopped and assisted the child until law enforcement could arrive on the scene.

Chief Deputy Barry White tells CCHT the child’s mother arrived before Deputies and took the child back home. Chief White says a welfare check was done at the residence. White says due to this being an underage child issue (approx. 10 years old) he is limited to what he can say surrounding the circumstances.

(Correction) The second child was found walking near the road while chasing after a family pet dog early Thursday morning. A concerned citizen stopped and called 911 to report the child. Chief Deputy Barry White tells CCHT this call was an honest mistake and all precautions have since been taken to prevent it from ever happening again. Again no names or further information can be released since it deals with an underage child.

Thankfully, both children are okay and back at home safely. This is an occurrence that doesn’t happen too often, however, for there to be two within two days is ironic for Clarke County.

There are no further details available at this time.
