OVERNIGHT I-59 ACCIDENT

Emergency Officials responded to Interstate 59 last night at the 135-mile marker, after a large pine tree fell blocking entire north bound side (both lanes and shoulder).

The 18 wheeler pictured below struck the tree and ultimately left the interstate and was able to keep it upright with damage noted to road sign. A second passenger vehicle traveling behind the 18-wheeler also struck the tree disabling the vehicle in the left lane.

While State Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Deputies with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office maintained traffic control, Enterprise Fire Department was able to clear the tree and debris from both lanes and the shoulder allowing traffic to flow smoothly.

One person was transported by Paratech EMS to a local hospital for minor injury evaluation.

MDOT also assisted at the scene.
